The Niagara Peninsula is the natural habitat of birds of prey such as the red-tailed hawk.

The Niagara region is well known for being a popular path for the
migration of large and small birds of prey. Eagles, hawks, falcons and
many others can be seen in the skies in March and April as they glide on
the thermals produced by both Lakes Erie and Ontario. They do not like to fly over large bodies of water, so they pick the eastern route from
their US winter homes, cross the border across the Niagara River, head west, and then north on the east side of Lake Huron. The Niagara River is also known world-wide as a winter home to over two dozen species of gulls and terns."
